Identify - South Park

South Park - Trey Parker and Matt Stone

The fairly controversial TV show 'South Park' has been successful over time due to its simplicity, much like 'The Ricky Gervais Show'. The show goes out of its way to stay on top of current affairs and often takes on the likes of Saddam Hussein, Bin Laden, the Devil and politicians of every party. At first the show was made using the 'cutout' animation process - using flat backgrounds and characters cut from materials such as paper or card, however has soon moved on to computer software that emulate the 'cutout' style. South Park is a significant example of the transition and evolution of animation, from paper and pen to digital software. The shows satirical humour allows for the audience to relax and take a break from their daily life, and simply enjoy a short 20 minute animation of chaos and ridiculous stories. Being a fairly simple show to the eye, principles such as squash and stretch and slow-in and slow-outs are frequent throughout the show.
