The animated podcast hosted by Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington to me is extremely clever and enjoyable due to its sheer simplicity. For the most part, the audience is simply shown a bland room where the three comedians talk. Despite sounding boring, I love the simplicity of it as if the animations are actually real, rather than just highlighting the action packed parts (if any), further engaging the audience. The animations give an extra appeal to the ridiculous conversations, and filtered throughout are short animations parallel to the conversations, at times introducing new characters briefly but sticking with the three voices of Ricky, Stephen and Karl. This allows for the conversations and show in general to run fluidly, without overloading the audience with new characters and again reiterating the simplicity of the show. The humour of course adds appeal to the show but the animations are a well needed addition, complementing Karl's hilarious often childish statements.
